I have been decorating my apartment since I moved in six months ago. I constantly try to decide what would be the best fit. But, one day when I was looking on pintrest I found the amazing world of wallpaper. I realized that they have self adhesive wallpaper in thousands of styles. I didn't want to paint because I didn't have the energy or time. I didn't want to pay someone to do the decorating around my apartment walls. So, I decided to test out wall paper in my living room and dining room areas. Then eventually went off to adding wallpaper in the bedrooms. I am considering adding it to my bathrooms for certain areas.
I recommend wallpaper because you don't have to worry about the odor from paint or having to wait hours for it to dry. But, wallpaper can be done in an hour and can be changed anytime you want. Wall paper can give the room personality. Not to say that paint cant because I plan on using paint in the future as well. But, its just something about wallpaper that makes the room stick out more. I like that I don't get dirty with peel and stick wall paper. But even normal wallpaper doesn't give such a hassle because once its up, its up. No extra work. I say check out wall paper at different stores and see which one fits your personality. All you need is peel and stick wall paper, a roller to get the air bubbles, wall paper glue for emergenices and a ruler.
The steps I would advise for you are:
1. Measure your area first that way you know how much to cut.
2. Glue the area before putting the wallpaper. Even if its self adhesive because sometimes they don't put enough glue for the temperature of the area. For example, I have an airconditioning fan in each room. So I shouldve used more glue instead of the kind that they naturally put on there.
3. Take the wallpaper and stand on a stool and slowly take off the wallpaper and use a roller as you do it so you won't have any bubbles.
4. Keep repeating steps 1-3 and you should be done in 30mins to 2 hours depending on the room size or area.
The photos below are from my apartment.
This is a brick wallpaper for my fireplace in my living room. I made this purchase from Amazon. I used about two rolls for my my fireplace.
This is my dining room with a nice black and white wallpaper that I purchased from Target. I used two and half rolls for this area.
I have shown this photo before (: But you guys should love the white brick wallpaper that I purchased from Target as well. I use around four rolls for this wall because it was a huge wall.
What different personalities does each room in your home have?
