I am a bad b*****.
Man... you're acting like a b*****.
She's such a b*****.
These are just some of the statements that people say on a daily basis. I know you probably looked at my title and was huhhh... what? But, I think before we make such statements we should look at ourselves since we constantly use the word as if it has a positive and negative form of using it -- when it general it is a negative word altogether. There is no positive aspect of the word bitch.
I have used the word in different scenarios. I have jokingly said it to my friend when she says something inappropriate. I have said it when I was angry at someone. But, does it make it right just because of the scenario?
When we think about it, no one should be using the word. It is a term referred to calling someone a female dog. But, if you're a humanist or feminist or both. You have to realize that the term bitch is used to degrade someone. I can't believe that I have used the word in my everyday conversations just to justify something. One day when I was looking at someones blog, I saw a guy comment asking how come he couldn't call the blogger a bitch when he noticed how women call this particiular blogger a bitch. The blogger responded saying, nope its not okay if a guy says it but its okay if a girl says it.
Something stroke a nerve in me because I find that so odd. When did the term bitch become so common amongst women when it was a negative thing to begin with? Its like after my brain sees something, it starts to see it everywhere for some reason lol. Have you ever had that happen to you? Ironically, I started seeing this type of comment everywhere. Guys bringing up the topic on different videos I watched and different facebook videos where people comment. I just noticed a trend that most women had this ideology. I wonder why? When did we decide that the word bitch had two different meanings?
If you use the word, then we should let everyone including guys use the word freely because you use it. You cannot say its bad when guys use it, but its okay when women use it. That would make it a double standard. Wouldn't it? I guess I just started to recognize that men actually spoke on the issue. I think its weird for either genders to use the word considering that it has always been something negative.
Don't even get me started on if you are a feminist using this word! Some women will say its a word of empowerment. But how? If a male calls you that word, you attack him instantly. I do not want to hear its not what he said, its how he said it. Or its the word he said in general when clearly when women call eachother that its all fine -- unless you guys are in an argument then its time to fight someone if they dare call you that. It just sounds ridiculous and just confusing to keep using a word that degrades you altogether.
If you are a feminist you should not be calling women bitches or should allow men to use the same terminology freely since as a feminist you want to be treated equally amongst the genders. At the end of the day, no one should use the word.
I have seen women and men dance while the word is in a song, use the term all the time, and claim that guys should never use the word or women can use it in certain situations. But I think that is super weird that women get mad when men disrespect them when they use the word but they do not acknowledge that they do the same thing to themselves. I am not saying that men should use the word -- but no one should use the word.
Men do not want to be called a degrading word and neither do women. So why use the word at all?
Rap songs use a way to express things about personal and cultural issues, now it is a way to cause more drama between women and men. People excuse degrading lyrics because its not personal and they can dance along to it. I still don't think it should be used for this situation. There are thousands of words and we chose to let a degrading word be in our vocabulary?
The definition of bitch is a female dog. Everyone knows this. A dog is a dog whether it is in a negative connation or a positive one. A bitch is still a dog. I hate seeing women use that terminology or anyone for that matter because we should label ourselves at a higher standards.
I don't think men should use it either considering that it is a degrading word for you as well. If you love yourself then you should treat people with love when they deserve it. If you want respect you have to give it don't you? Which means that women should not be calling ourselves a bad bitch or any type of bitch because you see yourself as a person of quality not an animal (even though animals are special too -- another topic for another day). We as the human race should start seeing things as unity, where men and women respect one another.
I know some people will say, I am taking the word too serious and in a song it is not a personal attack but just a lyrical word. But why is a demeaning word have a good or bad side? Would you want someone calling your mom that word? Would you use that language around your kids? We allow it to be in music, our psyche, and our everyday language.
I think women need to look at ourselves and respect ourselves. Men should start recognizing that they will be a dad one day and have a daughter that shouldn't have this ideology in her mind. Men should start seeing that they have to give the respect that they want from women as well. Just because a song uses the word hoe or bitch, doesn't mean you need to use it. Stop making excuses. Stop making double standards. Start respecting yourself and making decisions for yourself instead of letting society chose who you are.
The next time you use the word bitch or hoe...think about....
Would you want your daughter or son saying this word when they are growing up? Should it be considered a double standard if women can use the word but men cannot? Does any gender need to use the word at all considering it serves no purpose?
Until next time....
